Iceland + Stockholm

A few months ago, one of my best friends and I decided to go on one of the most incredible adventures; an adventure to the lands where the Vikings once roamed and where the night skies are painted with the most extraordinary of colors. My travel bestie, Claire, knew I would be up for any type of adventure and pushed the idea of a "stop-over flight" to any destination in Europe with a free stop in Iceland in the beginning or end of the trip. With not much convincing, we took the plunge and I couldn't be happier we did.

First stop on our adventure was Reykjavik, Iceland. The capital and largest city in Iceland. Despite the name, "ice" only covers about 10% of the country whereas the rest is composed of mostly volcanic rock, active volcanoes, bright green valleys, natural hot springs, and geysers shooting hot water way up into the sky. Iceland was unlike anywhere I had ever seen before. The first stop on our Icelandic adventure was the Blue Lagoon. I can't even begin to describe how incredible this was but after a red eye flight, this geothermal hot tub was everything we needed and more. The next day we took a tour down Iceland's most popular route, known as the Golden Circle. The route is comprised of a trio of natural wonders Thingvellir National Park, Geysir Geothermal Area, and the Gulfoss waterfalls. Iceland was nothing short of magical.

Now off to Stockholm, Sweden! I lovedddd Stockholm. We stayed in an Airbnb in a "trendy" neighborhood called Hornstull, where we discovered a beautiful river walkway into the city's "old town" called Gamla Stan. This town was what I pictured Sweden to look like: cobblestone streets, narrow alleyways, even a Royal Palace! It was beyond picturesque. We wandered the streets of Gamla Stan for hours with no definite plan, just a camera and good company. So much history to stumble on at every corner. And the people were all so friendly! Everyone spoke English to some extent and were happy to accommodate two American travel newbs. I would highly recommend taking this trip to anyone who is looking for a little adventure in their lives! You won't be disappointed.
